TVET Colleges Academic Calendar 2025-2026

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges in South Africa has an influence in developing skills and a wide range of careers to many people. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has now released the 2025 academic calendar which includes the academic year start and end dates, holiday breaks and the period of examination. All TVET Colleges prospective students wanting to know the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 cycle can now check below, the details of the academic calendar and how to prepare for their studies.

There are fifty (50) TVET Colleges in South Africa that comprises over 250 campuses. These institutions offer training in a variety of fields, including engineering, media, hospitality, business, utilities, and tourism.

Programmes & Features of TVET Colleges Academic Calendar for 2025

NCV Courses

The National Certificate: Vocational, abbreviated as NCV, offers an alternative to a Matric Certificate. These programmes helps to develop students in specialised areas that will equip them with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers.

NATED Programmes or Courses

NATED programmes usually consist of months of theoretical study at the TVET college which is followed by months of practical application in workplaces.

The 2025-2026 TVET Colleges Academic Calendar for Each Programme & Course

National Certificate NC(V) Programmes

• First 1 Term: National Certificate Vocational (NCV) programmes staff will start work on 6 January 2025 with classes starting on 13 January 2025. The term will end with an examination period closing 28 March 2025 as well as all colleges.
• Second 2 Term: Classes begins 7 April 2025, and end with exam date of 20 June 2025, with colleges closing on the same date.
• Third 3 Term: Third term classes will begin 15 July 2025, and end with examination closing on 30 September 2025, with special days allocated for internal examinations.
• Forth 4 Term: Classes will commence on 6 October 2025 and end with exams date closing on 7 November 2025. An additional examination period for Life Skills & Computer Literacy (P2) is scheduled from 3 November to 7 November 2025.

Please Note: The final exam date is 10 November 2025 to 11 December 2025, and colleges will close on 11 December 2025.

NATED/Report 191 Programmes

The 2025 academic calendar for NATED programmes is divided into two semesters. For Report 191 Business and Utility Studies

• Semester 1: Term 1 begins on 6 January 2025 and concludes on 28 March 2025. Term 2 starts on 7 April 2025 and ends on 20 June 2025.
• Semester 2: Term 3 begins on 15 July 2025 and ends on 30 September 2025. Term 4 commences on 6 October 2025 and ends on 11 December 2025.

The calendar for Natural Science Programmes follows a trimester system. For Report 191 Natural Science Programmes

• Trimester 1 begins on 6 January 2025 and close on 15 April 2025.
• Trimester 2 commences on 12 May 2025 and end on 19 August 2025.
• Trimester 3 starts on 8 September 2025 and ends on 11 December 2025.
